Tennis Legend Andre Agassi to Kick Off Inaugural South Beach Slam Pickleball Tournament

— The City of Miami Beach will make a major announcement with the superstar while on site —

Miami Beach, FL – Eight-time tennis Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi will open the inaugural South Beach Slam powered by Fisker pickleball tournament on Nov. 17 with a ribbon-cutting, photo opportunities and pickleball lessons and clinics for anyone who has preregistered.

Agassi, a perennial trendsetter and crowd favorite on and off the court, will partner with the City of Miami Beach in making a major announcement at the ribbon-cutting to be held at 1665 Lenox Ave on Friday, Nov. 17 at 3:30 p.m. The announcement will position Miami Beach and Lincoln Road at the heart of sports tourism this February. Nike Miami will also be unveiling a collection of pickleball merchandise for sale at their South Florida flagship store located at 1035 Lincoln Road throughout the weekend, while supplies last.

In partnership with electric vehicle manufacturer Fisker, the city is aiming to become the pickleball capital of South Florida by offering FREE registration for the first-ever South Beach Slam on Nov. 17-19. The amateur doubles tournament will take place on world famous Lincoln Road with a total of $12,000 in prize money.

“We’re already 90% sold out for the tournament, and our Friday community programming is sold out and on a waitlist, with only days to go before the start of this historic inaugural tournament,” shared Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak.

Considered one of the fastest-growing segments of the travel industry, sports-related tourism is a natural fit for Miami Beach’s pristine beaches, beautiful hotels, plentiful recreational amenities and elevated cultural experiences. The event is made possible thanks to generous support from Fisker, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau as well as the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority.

The free community programming gets underway on Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. with pickleball lessons and clinics for all skill levels. Agassi will be on hand to show off his own pickleball skills.

Players of all ability levels who sign up for the Saturday and Sunday 10-court, men’s, women’s and mixed doubles tournament will be paired with another registrant of a similar skill level or they can sign up with a teammate. Please note that a $20 fee will be charged to all registrants but will be refunded once players arrive on-site.

The limited Nike Miami pickleball apparel will only be sold at the Nike Miami store during the South Beach Slam. Each player will receive a registration kit, which includes a custom South Beach Slam tote bag, branded towel, a Joola pickleball, Raw Elements sunscreen, as well as a 20% discount card and water bottle courtesy of Nike Miami, where registration packages will be picked up. Participants will also be offered discounts and promotional offerings at additional Lincoln Road stores and restaurants like Salt and Straw ice cream.

Miami Beach residents and visitors are invited to watch the tournament in the municipal parking lot at 1665 Lenox Ave. free of charge.

Co-founded by designer Henrik Fisker, the California-based electric car startup, Fisker Inc., is the official sponsor of the South Beach Slam. The Loews Miami Beach Hotel serves as the official host hotel and is offering participants and attendees a special promotional rate of $249 per night while inventory lasts. Players can also stay well hydrated and fueled throughout the weekend at The Kitchen by Yard House, where grab and go food and beverage options will be available from breakfast through to dinner.
