The following is a Q&A conducted by the Lincoln Road BID with Gregory Galy, founder of MILA, a transportive venue merging an elevated dining experience with a magical, glamorous and vibrant atmosphere. Opened in 2020 , MILA awakens the senses through refined flavors, bespoke mixology, transporting music and an unparalleled ambiance.

Q&A

1. What factors influenced your decision to open your business on Lincoln Road?

Answer:
Lincoln Road has always been a booming attraction for residents and tourists. The remodeling of the convention center and the surge in business activity happening throughout Miami were major factors. New high-end hotels in the area created an opportunity to attract a mix of high-end tourists and local businesses. Lincoln Road’s proximity to affluent residential areas was also key in our decision. At the time of signing the lease in 2017-2018, many large competitors were focusing on Brickell, making Lincoln Road a more attractive option for our business.

2. How long have you been open on Lincoln Road? Same location, or have you relocated within the BID area?

Answer:
We signed the lease in 2018 and began construction in 2019. We opened in January 2020, six weeks before the start of the pandemic. Unfortunately, we closed in March 2020 and reopened in October 2020. In December 2022, due to the great success and demand for our Members Club, we expanded our concept on the second floor of the building, adding MILA 2nd Floor, MM (Members Club), MILA Lounge, and MILA Omakase. We have remained at the same location within the BID area.

3. How did you assess the demographics and target market surrounding the destination before selecting your business location? Please explain.

Answer:
Our primary motivation was the location itself and the potential to infuse it with our desired energy, ambiance, and creative vision. We evaluated the demographics and target market by analyzing direct competition in the area. Juvia’s notable success from 2012 to 2015 provided valuable insights into guest profiles and target markets. We believed there was a greater opportunity for success in Lincoln Road, which had demonstrated potential but was not yet saturated with high-end restaurants, unlike the Brickell area.

4. Did the proximity to competitors influence your decision-making process? Please explain.

Answer:
Yes, the success of Juvia solidified Lincoln Road as a prime location for  stablishing a thriving business.

5. What specific advantages do you feel Lincoln Road offers for your business? Please elaborate on your answer.

Answer: Creating a welcoming environment for both locals and tourists, Lincoln Road provides a clean and safe area.

Answer:

indicators, we focused on high-net-worth residents, discerning travelers, and affluent visitors to the area.

8. What role, if any, did the BID have in your opening? The BID was instantly supportive of our opening and have helped tremendously over the years to mitigate situations with the city, promote our business.

Answer:
They were immediately supportive and have been instrumental in assisting us over the years. In 2015, when business was declining, they were optimistic and helped mediate with the city. Their support has been invaluable in navigating various situations with the city and in effectively promoting our business within the community.

9. How important was the visibility and foot traffic surrounding Lincoln Road for your business strategy?

Answer:
Visibility and foot traffic were not relevant in our business strategy. We wanted to create a destination, an unparalleled experience that would attract guests and encourage them to revisit.
